The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed former India cricketer Sridharan Sriram to lead the Bangladesh national team in the upcoming Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup.

BCB President Nazmul Hassan Papon has hinted the change.

According to a BCB source, Indian Sridharan Sriram will be the head coach as he has experience working in the IPL.

Indian coach Sreedharan Sriram has been replaced by head coach Russell Domingo. Meanwhile, Sriram's contract with BCB has also been done. He will join the team within two days.

However, Jamie Siddons is also in the running for the role of head coach at the Asia Cup. BCB president Nazmul Hasan Papon yesterday named Siddons as the head coach. Sriram will be in the World Cup if he does well in the Asia Cup. After scrutinizing his performance, he will be appointed for the T20 World Cup.

Sriram had featured in eight ODIs for the India national side between 2000-2004. His last international match was against Bangladesh at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka in 2004. The Tigers tasted their first ODI win against India that day. Chasing a target of 230 runs, Sriram’s 91-ball 57 went in vain as India lost by 15 runs.

He has worked with the Australia national team for six years since 2016 and has also been involved in the coaching staff of Royal Challengers Bangalore — an Indian Premier League (IPL) team.

However, Russell Domingo would continue his role in guiding the Test team as Bangladesh have a Test series against India in November.
