Bangladesh Cricket Board have said on Saturday that the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) have given them an extension to finalize their Asia Cup squad, the announcement delayed due to injury concerns.

The deadline for announcing the Asia Cup squad is on August 8 but BCB requested the ACC to extend the time frame for them considering they are awaiting medical reports of several players.

"The long injury list have put us on the backfoot and so we requested the ACC to give some more time to finalize our squad and they have accepted it," BCB cricket operation chairman Jalal Yunus told Cricbuzz on Saturday.

Litton Das and Nurul Hasan have been ruled out from the ongoing tour of Zimbabwe after sustaining injuries and look doubtful for the Asia Cup unless they recover sufficiently before the time frame.

Nurul is currently in Singapore to get his condition assessed, and provided he doesn't require surgery on his finger there is a chance of him making a cut last minute.

Team management is yet not ready to rule out Litton though it is said he needs four week to recover from the hamstring injury. Chances are slim for him to make it to the Asia Cup squad.

The other players in the injury list are Mustafizur Rahman (ankle), Mushfiqur Rahim (thumb) and Shoriful Islam (knee). Apart from them, Yasir Ali and Mohammad Saifuddin, who were ruled out from the tour of Zimbabwe, will also have to pass the fitness test for selection.

"We are waiting for the medical report and later we will finalize the squad. We will have to submit the squad before August 11," Jalal added.

Apart from injury concerns, Bangladesh also need to finalize their T20I skipper for the Asia Cup and the upcoming T20 World Cup. Shakib al Hasan was the front runner but he needs to clear his position to the board as far as his latest sponsorship deal with Betwinner News.

BCB board president recently said that they have four options in front of them though one of them showed reluctance to take on the captaincy role.

Litton had earlier been approached to take the leadership role for the Zimbabwe T20Is, after Nurul was injured but he declined the offer citing that he wants to concentrate on his batting. Apart from the trio, Mahmudullah is also in the race to take the responsibility though certain quarters of BCB said that it is highly unlikely.

It was learnt Shakib wanted to know the time frame of his T20I captaincy and according to insiders he is ready to take if he is given the responsibility for two years, meaning he is targeting the next World Cup as well, and wants to prepare his team accordingly.
