Sri Lankan batsman Angelo Mathews tested positive for COVID-19 and was isolated from the rest of his teammates playing the first cricket test against Australia.

Sri Lanka Cricket said on Friday, the third day of the test match, that Mathews was tested for the virus because he was feeling unwell.

Oshada Fernando was named as a replacement for Mathews to play the remainder of the match, the board said.

Sri Lanka opted to bat first after winning the toss and made 212 runs in its first innings. Spinner Nathan Lyon starred with a match haul of nine wickets as Australia wrapped up the opening Test on Friday with a crushing victory before lunch on the third day.

The hosts were bundled out for 113 in their second innings allowing the Australians to seal a 10-wicket victory in their first over back at the crease in Galle.
