Shakib Al Hasan has been named as the captain of the Test squad of the Bangladesh National Cricket Team. Besides, Liton Das has been named as the co-captain of the Test squad.

The changes have been made after Mominul Haque’s captaincy was in question since the loss at home to Sri Lanka.

BCB sources have confirmed the matter.

The left-arm spin all-rounder will be the team’s Test captain from the West Indies tour. Wicketkeeper Liton Das has been named as the co-captain.

Top-order batsman Mominul Haque is not getting any runs with the bat. Leadership has become a mountainous pressure for him. That is why he met BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon and requested for resignation from the captaincy.

After his decision, BCB officials sat in a meeting to decide on a new Test captain. After the BCB board meeting, the captaincy of the Test team was handed over to Shakib for the third time.

Earlier, in 2009, Shakib became the captain of the Bangladesh team for the first time in three formats. He was removed from the captaincy after the 2011 World Cup due to discipline. Then in 2016, he was given the responsibility of Test and T20 captain.

Besides, getting the ODI lead was also a matter of time for Shakib, however, he lost his captaincy after a year due to international bans. Mahmudullah was made the T20 captain. Test leadership was given to Mominul Haque. Tamim Iqbal was made the ODI captain after Mashrafe.
