Bangladesh got some relief as pace bowler Shoriful Islam is expected to be available from the start of the upcoming home series against Sri Lanka. Shoriful was included in the Bangladesh squad for the opening Test subject to his fitness. The Bangladesh Cricket Board had recently sent Shoriful to Singapore to have an assessment for his abdominal issues which bothered him for a long time.

The left-arm pace bowler's participation in the opening Test of the two-match Test series, which is scheduled to start in Chattogram from May 15, came under doubt as there was a possibility of him having to undergo a surgery for his abdomen problem.

BCB officials confirmed on Saturday (April 30) that after assessing his condition, physicians in Singapore suggested that he will not require any operation at the moment.

"He (Shoriful) is available for us from the opening Test against Sri Lanka as he will not require any operation at the moment," said BCB's chief selector Minhajul Abedin. "It will be big boost for us considering we are also missing the service of Taskin (Ahmed) at the moment."

Taskin is expected to depart for England on May 4 to assess his shoulder injury that ruled him out from the Test series against Sri Lanka.
