Ukraine-Scotland World Cup playoff date finally set

If all goes well, the European playoffs was scheduled to be finalized in March. However, the Russian aggression in Ukraine has completely changed the landscape.

Russia has been knocked out of Path B by FIFA and UEFA. Meanwhile, Scotland was scheduled to play against Ukraine in Path A. The Scotland-Ukraine match was postponed due to the Russian aggression, as a result. the game of Path A was postponed.

Finally, a new day of that unresolved battle has been fixed, UEFA said in a statement yesterday (Thursday, April 14). According to the statement, Scotland will face Ukraine in the semifinals of the playoffs. The match will be played on June 1. The Scots will host Ukraine in Glasgow that night.  

According to the original schedule, the match was scheduled to be played on March 24. However, due to the Russian aggression in their country, Ukraine requested to postpone their game – Which was warmly accepted by FIFA.

The winner of this match on June 1 will play against Wales in Cardiff on June 5. The winning team will go to the World Cup in Qatar. The team that wins this play-off will be in Group B of the next World Cup. Another European opponent in that group is already England – with Iran and the United States.
