Rumors are circulating in the country’s cricket arena that Tamim Iqbal, the opener of the Bangladesh National Cricket Team, has taken an “unwritten retirement” from the International T20. However, Tamim himself said “he took a temporary leave, not retirement”.

Tamim’s retirement can be said to have created a stir in the country’s cricket arena. Even BCB president Nazmul Hasan Papon told reporters that “Tamim no longer wants to play T20”.

Ever since then, there have been rumors that Tamim may announce his retirement from the International T20 at any time. However, that is not happening in reality.

BCB officials have been holding meetings with Tamim for the last few days. He has been repeatedly asked to change his mind. Tamim was still adamant in his decision.

A reliable BCB source said that a decision has been reached in the end. According to that source, Tamim Iqbal is not retiring from International T20, rather he is taking a “temporary leave” from this format this year!

It is learned that Tamim will not play international matches in this format till the 2022 T20 World Cup. This year, Bangladesh has several Test and ODI matches. Tamim will emphasize these two formats instead of T20.

The T20 World Cup will start in Australia from mid-October this year. If the BCB thinks Tamim can play T20 after that event, then Tamim can return to this format. It is learned that Tamim is going to announce something like this in the press conference on Thursday afternoon.
