Nahidul star as Cumilla beat Barishal by 63 runs

Spinner Nahidul Islam bagged 3 for 5 as Cumilla Victorians beat Fortune Barishal by 63 runs to seal second straight victory in the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) at Mirpur today. 

In reply to Victorians 158/7, Barishal all out for 95 runs in 17.3 overs. Opener Nazmul Hossain Shanto 36 off 47, Towhid Hridoy (19 off 14) and Nurul Hasan (17 off 14) were the three batters who reached double digits.

Barishal lost opener Shykat Ali for naught and Skipper Shakib Al Hasan to 7. They reduced to 45/4 when Chris Gayle was send-off by Nahidul Islam. Opener Nazmul Hossain Shanto fought alone but no one accompanied him. Shanto was caught by Imrul Kayes off Mustafizur Rahman as the last batter. 

For Cumilla Victorians Nahidul Islam was the best bowler with 3 for 5 runs while Karim Janat, Shohidul Islam and Tanvir Islam bagged two wickets apiece.

Earlier, opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Karim Janat helped Cumilla Victorians to post a fighting total against Fortune Barishal. Joy made 35-ball 48 and Janat scored 16-ball 29 not out which helped their team to post 158/7 in 20 overs.

Fortune Barishal skipper Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and sent Cumilla Victorians to bat first in the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2022 at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium today.

Cameron Delport and young opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy was solid before the former went out by Nayeem Hasan for 19 off 13.

Faf du Plessis was also dismissed cheaply to Shakib Al Hasan scoring only 6 off 11 and fail to prove his worth. 

Skipper Imrul Kayes and Mahmudul Hasan Joy made some resistance but it did not last long as Kayes was dismissed by DJ Bravo scoring 11-ball 15. 

Joy and Mominul added 44 runs for the fourth wickets stand before the former got a leading edge straight to the Universe Boss at short third man off  Lintott. Joy scored 48 off 35, his innings adorned with six fours and a six. 

Mominul (17) was also send-off by Shakib Al Hasan and Cumilla lost their fifth wickets to 117. No other layer order batter stand against Barishal bowlers but Karim Janat who scored 29 off 16 which helped Cumilla Victorians to post 158/7. 

For Barishal, DJ Bravo took 3/30 while Shakib Al Hasan bagged 2/25. Besides, Nayeem Hasan, Jake Lintott took one wicket apiece.
