Despite being the defending champions, the start of the current edition of the Under-19 World Cup was a disappointment for the youths of Bangladesh. They lost to England U-19 very badly in thier first match. In the second match, however, the Bangladesh U-19 team easily defeated the Canada U-19 team.

Rakibul Hasan’s side won the ‘A’ group match at Saint Kitts on Thursday by 8 wickets with great all-around skill. They reached the target of 137 runs with 119 balls in hand.

Chasing the run, opener Mahfijul Islam  Robin (12) went back for 26 runs. Then another opener Iftakher Hossain made a pair of 76 runs with Prantik Nawrose Nabil for the second wicket.

Nabil returned with 33 runs, however, Iftekhar left the field with a victory for the team. He played unbeaten innings of 61 off 89 balls with 7 fours. At the other end, Aich Mollah was unbeaten on 20 off 26 balls.

Earlier, batting first, the Canadian U-19 fell in the trap of Ripon Mondol’s pace and SM Meherob’s spin. Both took 4 wickets each. Ashiqur Zaman took 2 wickets.

As a result, the Canada U-19 were bowled out for 136 in 44.3 overs. Opener Anoop Chima scored almost half of the team’s runs. He played an innings of 63 runs in with 7 fours off 117 balls. Only three players managed to score double digits.
