Right-handed batter Fargana Hoque became the first Bangladeshi woman cricketer to touch the 1,000-run milestone in the T20 format in international cricket.

Farzana touched the milestone in Bangladesh's first match against Malaysia in the qualifying round of the Commonwealth Games on Tuesday.

Farzana reached the milestone on her way to 7 not out against Malaysia. In T20 cricket, Farzana now has 1005 runs in 69 matches at an average of 18.61. Farzana has 1 century and 2 half-centuries in his career in this format. 

She is followed by Captain Nigar Sultana (861 runs in 53 T20I).

Before Farzana, no one could make 1000 runs in international cricket for Bangladesh. Rumana Ahmed scored 893 runs in 42 ODIs. In this format, Farzana scored 841 runs in 41 matches.

Bangladesh started the qualifying round of the Commonwealth Games with an 8-wicket victory over Malaysia.

The Bangladesh women's team won the toss and was elected to field at the Kinnara Academy Oval in Kuala Lumpur.

Bangladesh restricted Malaysian women to 49 runs for 9 wickets in 20 overs. Only two batsmen can reach the double-digit for the team. Captain Winifred Duraisingham scored 12 and Mass Elisa 11 runs.

Suraiya Ajmin and Rumana Ahmed took two wickets each for Bangladesh while Salma Khatun, Nahida Akhter and Ritu Moni took one wicket apiece.

In reply, Bangladesh got off to a good start as openers Sharmin Sultana and Murshida Khatun added 38 runs in 5 overs. Sharmin made 28 off 19 balls with 4 fours and 1 six and Murshida made 14 off 16 balls with 1 boundary.

After losing two openers to 44 runs, captain Nigar Sultana and Fargana Hoque ensured the victory for Bangladesh. Sultana remained unbeaten on 3 and Farzana on 7. Rumana became the player of the match.

The Bangladesh women's team will take on Kenya in their second encounter of the league phase tomorrow.
