After the 2019 World Cup, Steve Rhodes left the responsibility of Bangladesh’s head coach in silence. However, when he returned to Bangladesh after almost two and a half years, there was no stir. This time, not as the coach of Bangladesh, he will work for Cumilla Victorians in this year’s Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
There are also changes in his role. Last time, he was the coach of Mashrafe-Sakib. Now his role is changing. “In Cumilla Victorians, he will work as a consultant,” a source in the team confirmed the matter to the media.
Steve Rhodes set foot in Bangladesh on January 15 to work for Cumilla. However, there were rumors about his role. Is this former coach of the national team finally taking over as Cumilla’s head coach? Such rumors were also spreading.
However, it was finally revealed that Rhodes would play the role of a consultant for Cumilla, not a coach. Local coach Mohammad Salahuddin is already the head coach of the team. This English coach will work in coordination with him.
A source in Cumilla Victorians told the media, “Steve Rhodes set foot in Dhaka last night. He will work as a consultant with the team.”
Rhodes took over as the head coach of the Bangladesh cricket team in June 2018. Bangladesh won the title of the elusive multinational tournament under him. He also had the distinction of winning Tests and ODIs at home against the Windies. However, the BCB sacked Rhodes due to his failure in the 2019 World Cup.
