Bangladesh U-19 team started the Youth Asia Cup with a big victory against the Nepal U19 team thanks to left-handed batsman Nowroz Nabil's unbeaten century.

In their first Group B match at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Friday, Bangladesh Youth beat Nepla by a huge margin of 154 runs.

Sending to bat, Bangladesh youth post huge 294/4.  Prantik scored an unbeaten 127 off 112 balls with the help of 11 fours and one six while Mohammad Fahim chipped in with a brisk 58 off 54 balls to catapult the junior Tigers to 297-4 in their 50 overs. In reply, Nepal’s innings folded for just 143 in 42.3 overs.

For Bangladesh, SM Meherob, Tanzim Hasan, captain Rakibul Hasan and Naimur Rohman  took two wickets each.

Batting first, Bangladesh got off to a cautious start, reaching 35-0 after 10 overs.

But the opening stand ended in the 11th over when Mahfijul Islam got dismissed for 17, which brought Prantik to the middle.

Prantik dictated the rest of the Bangladesh innings, forming a 117-run stand for the fourth wicket with Fahim and a quickfire 62-run partnership off just 33 balls for the following wicket with Meherob (21), which pushed Bangladesh’s total well beyond Nepal’s reach.

Nepal never looked like chasing the total and were reduced to 81-6 in 31 overs.

Gulshan Jha (35) and Bibek Yadav (26) then formed a 60-run partnership for the seventh wicket to take them into triple-figures.

But after Meherob broke the stand by dismissing Bibek; Nepal lost their remaining wickets for just two runs.

Bangladesh’s next match is against Kuwait at the same venue on Saturday.
