Ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan had earlier said that he did not want to go to New Zealand for family reasons. But since he did not inform the BCB in writing, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) today announced an 18-member squad for the two-Test tour including Shakib today. Within an hour of the team's announcement, Shakib wrote a letter to the BCB asking for leave from the tour of New Zealand.

According to reliable sources, in a letter sent to BCB chief executive officer Nizam Uddin Chowdhury, Shakib said that he did not want to tour New Zealand starting from December 9 due to urgent family reasons. Shakib, therefore, requested to keep him out of the team. He tried to contact Nizam Uddin Chowdhury to find out about this but he could not be found on his mobile phone. Shakib also did not agree to comment on the matter.

Bangladesh will play two Tests against New Zealand in a 40-day tour, including a seven-day quarantine. The first Test of the series will be held at Mount Manganui and the second Test will be in Christchurch. Bangladesh will also play two warm-up matches before the main clash.

Squad: Mominul Haque (Captain), Shadman Islam, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan, Liton Das, Nurul Hasan Sohan, Yasir Ali Rabbi, Mehedi Hasan Miraz, Taijul Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Abu Jayed Chowdhury Rahi, Ebadot Hossain, Shoriful Islam, Syed Khaled Ahmed, Shohidul Islam, Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Md Naim Sheikh
