FIFA releases shortlist for ‘The Best Footballer’ award

The governing body of world football, FIFA, has awarded the best footballer every year. The organization has initially released a shortlist to select ‘The Best FIFA Men’s Player’ for 2021 on its website.

Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar, the three best footballers of the time, are on the shortlist of 11 best footballers. Apart from them, Bayern Munich star striker Robert Lewandowski is also on the shortlist again this year.

Last year, Lewandowski was announced as the “FIFA Player of the Year” leaving behind Ronaldo and Messi. Chelsea’s Champions League winner and Euro-winning midfielder of Italy Jorginho is also on the list.

Besides the list of men’s footballers of the year, FIFA has also announced the names of 13 players of the year in women’s football. A shortlist of the best women and men coaches and goalkeepers has also been published.

The fans can vote for the nominees on the website till December 10. The winners will be announced at a virtual event in January 2022.

  • Neymar (Brazil and PSG).
  • Jorginho (Italy and Chelsea).
  • N'Golo Kanté (France and Chelsea).
  • Kylian Mbappé (France and PSG).
  • Mohamed Salah (Egypt and Liverpool).
  • Robert Lewandowski (Poland and Bayern Munich).
  • Karim Benzema (France and Real Madrid).
  • Kevin De Bruyne (Belgium and Manchester City).
  • Erling Braut Haaland (Norway and Borussia Dortmund).
