Grameenphone, one of the country's leading mobile phone operators has increased the minimum recharge limit to Tk20 from Tk 10.

Grameenphone is informing its customers about the matter through SMS.

Grameenphone’s Head of External Communications Muhammad Hasan said, “As part of simplifying the benefits of our various products, the minimum recharge of Flexiload has been fixed at Tk 20. However, TK 14 and 16 minute packs and all recharge cards will be available as before at a cheaper price of TK 20.”

Hasan also informed that customers will get special call rate facility on any local number for two days with Tk 21 recharge and three days with Tk 29 recharge.

According to the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), there are now 18 crores 42 lakh active SIMs in the country. Of these, Grameenphone's SIM number is 8 crore 49 lakh 50 thousand. Grameenphone is the top operator in Bangladesh in terms of number of subscribers, revenue and profit. Last week BTRC banned Grameenphone from selling new SIM because of poor quality service.

In this regard, BTRC Vice Chairman Subrata Roy Maitra said that “The sale of Grameenphone SIMs has been banned indefinitely due to questions about the quality of service. Grameenphone will not be able to sell new SIMs until further notice.”

Grameenphone authorities in a statement on the BTRC’s decision claimed that Grameenphone is following the standards of BTRC and the international organization ITU, as well as the relevant standards in terms of service delivery. They have been working closely with BTRC to continuously improve the quality of the network and services and have taken various steps to modernize the network.
