42,60,783 mobile SIMs have returned to Dhaka in the last three days after the Eid holidays.
Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar shared the information on his verified Facebook page on Sunday.
According to the SIM statistics of the mobile operators who returned to Dhaka within May 5-7, Grameenphone had 17,94,446, Robi had 12,55,814, Banglalink had 12,17,889 and Teletalk had 2,22,876 SIMs.
Earlier, Mustafa Jabbar had posted the statistics of SIMs going to the village for Eid in a Facebook post. From there, it was seen that 73 lakh mobile SIMs left Dhaka in 4 days from April 27-30. Among them, 43 lakh 9 thousand mobile SIMs left Dhaka on April 29-30. All in all, on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, more than 1 crore 30 lakh mobile SIMs left Dhaka.
“This calculation of SIM movement has confirmed the position of 100% SIM,” said Mustafa Jabbar. “There are about 18 crore SIMs in the country. Now 12 crore people have 18 crore SIMs. Each has an average of 1.5 SIMs.”
With this number of SIMs, there is no opportunity to determine the number of people returning to the capital -- because one can have more than one or more active SIMs.
