Agriculture Minister Dr. Abdur Razzaque
Agriculture Minister Dr. Muhammad Abdur Razzaque said the government wants free and fair elections for Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC). This is the demand of the government so that this election is not questioned. Even if the Awami League candidate loses, the people will win. Whatever the outcome, the Awami League will accept it.
The minister came up with the comments while speaking to journalists after paying a courtesy call on outgoing US Ambassador Robert Al Miller at his office in the Ministry of Agriculture.
The minister said that even if the Awami League candidate loses this election, the government will not suffer any loss. He said the acceptance of the government could not be allowed to fade under any circumstances.
The Agriculture Minister said that the absence of the Election Commission Act for a long time is a weak point of all governments. The law should have been. If that was the case, there would not be so much controversy now. However, even if there is no law, the search committee that will be formed with the formation of the Election Commission will be neutral.
He added that the president does not belong to any party, but to the state. Those who become election commissioners can remain neutral if they want. Not being neutral is the weakness of the particular person, not the law.
Voting in the Narayanganj City Corporation elections started at 8 am and will continue till 4 pm. In this election 7 candidates are contesting for the mayoral post and 146 for general councilor posts and 34 candidates are contesting for the post of reserved women councilor.
