Bangladesh Awami League paid rich tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the occasion of the Homecoming Day of the great leader.

The Awami League leaders and activists led by its presidium member Jahangir Kabir Nanak paid the homage by placing wreath at the portrait of the Father of the Nation in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi in Dhaka on Monday morning.

Awami League presidium members Begum Matia Chowdhury, Shahjahan Khan, Abdur Rahman, Khairuzzaman Liton, Joint General Secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, Dipu Moni, Dr Hasan Mahmud, AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Organizing Secretary Ahmed Hossain, BM Mozammel Haque, former organizing secretary Enamul Haque Shamim, publicity and publication secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap, office secretary Barrister Biplob Barua, cultural secretary Asim Kumar Ukil, executive member Iqbal Hossain Apu and other central leaders and activists were also present on the occasion.

Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid rich tributes to Bangabandhu to mark the day. The premier along with her younger sister Sheikh Rehana, also the youngest daughter of the Bangabandhu, paid the homage by placing a wreath at the portrait of the Father of the Nation.

After laying the wreath, the prime minister stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of profound respect to the memory of Bangabandhu, the architect of the independence.

Bangabandhu, the undisputed leader of the nation and supreme commander of the country’s Liberation War, returned to the sacred soil of independent Bangladesh via London and New Delhi on January 10 in 1972, after 290 days of confinement in Pakistan jail.

Since then, the nation is observing the day as the Homecoming Day of the Father of the Nation.
