China won`t mind if Bangladesh takes action against contracting company

Prove committee has found negligence of the contractor company over the Uttara crane tragedy which killed five people of a private car. Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Li Jiming has said there will be no objection if punitive actions are taken against those responsible for the Uttara crane tragedy as per recommendations of the report submitted by the probe committee.

He said this in a meeting with Road Transport and Highways Division secretary ABM Amin Ullah Nuri on Thursday morning.

At this time, Li Jiming expressed his deepest condolences to the victims of the crane accident in Uttara and condoled with their families.

He said that a high-level delegation of the construction firm working for the BRT project (under Road Transport and Highways) arrived in Dhaka to investigate the incident on behalf of the company. The delegation is ready to provide necessary assistance to the inquiry committee constituted by the Road Transport and Highways Department.

The Road Transport and Highways Division secretary said, "The whole nation is saddened by this tragic accident which killed five people after girder fell on their car. A committee has been formed to investigate this incident. The constituted committee includes an expert from BUET. The committee has been asked to submit its final report within the next seven days. According to the recommendations of the report, strict legal action will be taken against those responsible."

Roads and Highways Department Chief Engineer AKM Monir Hossain Pathan, Road Transport and Highways Department Additional Secretary Neelima Akhtar, BRT Project Managing Director Safiqul Islam, Head of Project Consultant Team Mr. Tig McCreen, Road Transport, and Highways Department officials and officials concerned with the project were present.

Earlier, a case was filed against the contracting firm China Gezhouba Group Co., Ltd. (CGGC) in the incident on Monday night. In this case, the driver of the crane and those responsible for ensuring safety have been accused.

Last Monday around 4:30 pm, five people were killed when a girder of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project fell on them in front of Paradise Tower in Uttara Sector 3. The victims were returning after attending a wedding ceremony in Dhaka.
