Light to moderate rain likely over country

Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), the country’s Met Office, today forecasted that light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur in different parts of the country in the next 24 hours commencing at 9 am today.
“Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at many places over Dhaka, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at a few places over Rangpur and Mymensingh divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over the country,” said the Met Office bulletin issued on Monday.
Day and night temperature may rise slightly over the country, it added.
Meanwhile, BMD deputy director Meteorologist Md. Omar Faruq said in the bulletin that the depression over Northwest Bay off West Bengal, North Odisha coast and adjoining area moved west-northwestwards and now lies over Chhattisgarh and adjoining area (Lat: 22.4o N, Long: 82.8o E ) as a land depression.
The axis of monsoon trough runs through Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, the center of the Depression, Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal to Assam across the central part of Bangladesh, he also said.
Under its influence steep pressure gradient persists over North Bay. Monsoon is active over Bangladesh and strong over North Bay, Meteorologist Md. Omar Faruq added.
The country’s maximum temperature was recorded at 35.4°C on Sunday at Sylhet while Monday’s minimum temperature today was recorded at 24.0°C at Khepupara in the Barishal division.
Maximum rainfall for the last 24 hours till 6 am on Monday was recorded at 70 millimeters (mm) at Barishal.
