Four people died in a fire at a plastic factory and godown in the Devidas Lan area in Chawkbazar in the capital.
A fire service worker confirmed the death of four people on Monday after climbing up the ladder and peeking through the second-floor window. “Four bodies were seen,” he said.
On Monday at around 3:45 pm, a man named Abdullah claimed that his brother Billal used to sleep on the second floor. “He was caught in the fire.”
After peeking into the second floor from the stairs inside the alley, it was seen that the room just above the burnt Barishal Hotel was also burnt. They scummed to death by burning while sitting in a corner of the room.
At this time, Abdullah kept crying saying “My brother, my brother”.
The fire that took place at a plastic factory and godown in the Devidas Lan area in Chawkbazar was brought under control at 2:30 pm today after two hours of effort.
Earlier, the fire broke place at No. 30 Debidwar, Kamalbag, Lalbagh at around 12 pm. Ten units of the fire service spent 2.15 hours trying to bring the fire under control at around 2:00 pm.
Khaleda Yasmin, the duty officer of the fire service control room, said that the fire service started working within 9 minutes of the fire. Six units join first. Later, the number of units was further increased.
