UN rights chief arrives in Dhaka today

The United Nations High commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, is scheduled to arrive today on a four day vist to Bangladesh. This will be the first visit of a UN human rights chief to Dhaka.

The foreign ministry was informed in a press release.

It is also said that the Bangladesh government is welcoming the visit of Michelle. Bangladesh is closely working with the United Nations on human rights issues. This visit will play an important role as an occasion in the sincere efforts of the Bangladesh government to protect the rights of citizens.

During her four-day visit, the UN rights chief is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, Law Minister Anisul Haque.

Besides, he can also meet with representatives of human rights organizations working in the country. He is also scheduled to visit the Rohingya refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar.

During Michelle Bachelet’s visit, the government will highlight the achievements of Bangladesh in the field of human rights . she will see our progress and know the challenges.
