Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen has urged the UN organizations to help create a conducive environment for the safe, voluntary, dignified and sustainable repatriation of the Rohingya, now sheltered in Bangladesh from Myanmar.

The Foreign Minister came up with the call as the new Country Director of the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) Domenico Scalpelli presented his credentials to him at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday.

At this time, the Foreign Minister thanked WFP for starting work in support of the Rohingyas who were shifted to Bhashan Char. He expressed concern over global food insecurity and suggested the establishment of a “Regional Food Bank” in South Asia as a strategic reserve for the region.

In the meeting, Domenico Scalpelli thanked the Government of Bangladesh for informing about Bhashan Char and providing accommodation, transport and other facilities to WFP staff there. He also praised the generosity of Bangladesh for providing shelter to displaced Rohingya from Myanmar with dignity. He urged to continue supporting the work of WFP in the repatriation of Rohingya.
