The mild heatwave that is sweeping over the country is likely to continue, however, a low-pressure area formed in Northwest Bay and intensified into a well-marked low, as a result, light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind are likely to occur in the country in the next 24 hours ending tomorrow at 9 am.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), the country’s Met Office, said this in a weather bulletin, signed by deputy director Meteorologist Shahanaj Sultana, issued on Monday.

According to the Met Office, light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at “many places” over
Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions; at a “few places” over Mymensingh, Dhaka and Rangpur divisions and at one or two places over Rajshahi division with “moderately heavy falls” at places over the country.

The mild heatwave, meanwhile, that is sweeping over Sylhet division and the districts of Rajshahi, Rangpur and Nilphamari may continue during the period.

Besides, day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged over the country, the weather bulletin added.

Meteorologist Shahanaj Sultana said in the weather bulletin’s synoptic situation that the low-pressure area over Northwest Bay off the Odisha-West Bengal coast has intensified into a well-marked low and currently lying over the same area. “It is likely to intensify further,” she also said.

“The axis of monsoon trough runs through Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, and the center of the well-marked low to Assam across the central part of Bangladesh. As a result, the monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh and moderate to strong elsewhere over North Bay,” Shahanaj Sultana added.

The country’s maximum temperature was recorded at 36.4°C yesterday at Sayedpur in the Rangpur division while today’s minimum temperature was recorded at 24.5°C at Sitakunda in the Chattogram division.

Today’s sunset will be at 6:37 pm and tomorrow’s sunrise will be at 5:31 am.
