China proposes Bangladesh to join GDI: Foreign Minister

China has proposed Bangladesh to join their Global Development Initiative (GDI), said Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen. He said that Bangladesh will look into China's proposal.

The Foreign Minister came up with the development while briefing reporters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday regarding the visit of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to Dhaka.

Dr. Momen said that in the meeting of the Chinese Foreign Minister with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, there was a discussion about poverty eradication. We have sought China's help in eradicating poverty. The Chinese foreign minister said that they are also fighting against poverty. We will work together to fight poverty.

In response to a question, the foreign minister said that the Chinese foreign minister said that separatists in different countries want to isolate their own country. And some party is instigating this isolation. But we have said that we always believe in the One China policy.

Dr. Momen said, we have asked China for help in solving the Rohingya crisis and they assured us.

The foreign ministers of the two countries held one hour and a half hour meeting at Hotel Sonargaon in the capital on Sunday morning.

The Chinese Foreign Minister held a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at 9:30 am on this day. After the meeting with the Prime Minister, the Chinese Foreign Minister left Dhaka at 10:45 am. The Chinese Foreign Minister stayed in Dhaka for less than 24 hours.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi arrived in Dhaka at 5:30 pm on Saturday. Agriculture Minister Abdur Razzaq and Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen welcomed him at the airport.
