Cholera vaccine’s second dose begins

The second round of the oral vaccination campaign against Cholera has begun today in five selected areas in Dhaka. The areas are Jatrabari, Sabujbagh, Dakshinkhan, Mirpur and Mohammadpur.

According to the International Center for  Diarrhea Research, Bangladesh (ICDDR, B), the second dose of cholera vaccination will be adminstered from 8 am to 4 pm from August 3 (Wednesday) to August 10. However, the vaccination program will be closed on Friday and Tuesday (Ashura day - August 9).

According to ICDDR, B, Jatrabari, Sabuj Bagh, Dakshinkhan, Mirpur and Mohammadpur of Dhaka, 23 lakh 65 thousand 585 residents who received the first dose of cholera vaccination will be given the second dose. Those who received the first dose of cholera vaccine from June 26 to July 2 can receive the second dose by showing their vaccination card at their respective immunization centers.

The director of the disease control branch of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Professor Dr. Nazmul Islam said that only those who have taken the first dose of the vaccine will get the second dose.

However, pregnant women and those who have received any other vaccination within the last 14 days cannot receive the vaccine. No other vaccinations can be taken within 14 days of this vaccination.

Ubiologics Co. of South Korea. Ltd.’s cholera vaccine called UVCOL Plus is being administered to children aged one year and above. This vaccine is approved by the World Health Organization.
