Death toll climbs to 118 in floods across country

Due to floods in the country, 17,640 people have been infected with various diseases and 118 people have died so far, informed Health Emergency Operations Center and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in a statement on Wednesday.
The statement said that from May 17 to July 12, a total of 17,640 people were infected with various flood-related diseases across the country and 118 people died. Among these, 10,919 people contracted diarrhea and one died. 63 people suffering from RTI (eye) disease. 15 people were “killed in the lightning strike”. Although 21 people were bitten by snakes, two died. Besides, 91 people drowned.
At the time, 1,866 people were infected with skin diseases, 304 with inflammatory diseases of the eyes and 442 with various injuries. Besides, 3,259 people were infected with other diseases and 9 of them died.
The district-wise death list includes one in Tangail, 6 in Mymensingh, 19 in Netrokona, 9 in Jamalpur, 7 in Sherpur, 7 in Lalmonirhat, 5 in Kurigram, 18 in Sylhet district, 29 in Sunamganj, 7 in Moulvibazar and 10 in Habiganj.
Noted that DGHS’s Health Emergency Operations Center and Control Room said on Tuesday, 16,981 people were infected with various diseases due to floods in the country and 116 people died.
