20,000 workers to remove sacrificial cattle waste in two cities

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and South City Corporation (DSCC) have announced to remove the sacrificial cattle waste during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha within 24 hours. 20,000 workers will work in two cities to remove waste and 1,000 vehicles will replace the waste.

Every Eid-ul-Azha, around 50,000 tons of waste is generated in the two cities of the capital after the cattle market and sacrifice. The two cities have to go to one kind of war to remove thousands of tons of waste from the city at the appointed time. This time they have prepared in advance to remove the waste.

Sources said that about 20,000 workers will be on the ground and thousands of trucks, compactors, dump trucks, skid loaders and water vehicles will be used. There are various disinfectant distribution activities including bleaching powder and Savlon in the two cities. Each ward will be given about three lakh garbage bags.

DSCC chief executive officer Farid Ahmed said work would be done to remove the waste from 2 pm within 24 hours on Eid day. There will be monitoring in each ward.

“We will have 6,800 waste management workers working uninterruptedly for three days,” he added. “We will use 300 vehicles. On the day of Eid-ul-Azha, we will remove the waste from 2 pm. Within a maximum of 24 hours, we will ensure that waste is collected, cleaned and will be taken to the Matuail waste dump.

Meanwhile, DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam has announced that the removal of sacrificial cattle waste within 12 hours. “We hope we will be able to clean all the waste from Dhaka city on Eid day within 12 hours,” he added.
