18 cattle markets to be set up in Dhaka

On the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, the authorities have decided to set up 18 temporary cattle markets in Dhaka North (DNCC) and South City (DSCC) Corporation. Of these, seven will be in DNCC and 10 will be set up in DSCC.

DNCC and DSCC officials said the lease of the cattle markets in the two cities has been finalized. Preparations for the market are underway. However, amid the COVID situation, it has been instructed to follow the hygiene rules. Law and order forces will be on the ground to maintain hygiene and order in the markets. Besides, DNCC Digital Hat will also be on.

Selim Reza, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of DNCC, said this time it has been decided to set up seven temporary and one permanent cattle market in DNCC. City Corporation officials are working to improve the management of the cattle markets.

Cattle markets under DNCC are — Gabtoli (Permanent), empty space in Badda Eastern Housing Block-E, F, G to H, empty space in Mirpur-6 Eastern Housing, empty space from Brindabon located at Uttara Sector no. 17 to North side of BGMEA, Vatara (Saidnagar) cattle market, empty space adjacent to Kawla Shialdanga, Salam Steel - north side of 300-ft Road’s Ward no. 43, and empty space owned by Jamuna Housing Company and privately owned, and empty space adjacent to Mohammadpur Basila 40-ft road.

The authorities, on the other hand, decided to set up 11 cattle markets in DSCC, including a permanent one.

Cattle markets under DSCC are — empty space adjacent to Meradia Bazar, empty space adjacent to Donia College ground, open space adjacent to Dholaikhal Truck Terminal, empty space adjoining the area adjacent to Maitri Sangha Club of North Shahjahanpur Khilgaon Railgate Bazar, empty area adjacent to the Institute of Leather Technology ground in Hazaribagh area, spaces in the vicinity of Amulia Model Town, spaces in the vicinity of Rahmatganj Club in Lalbagh, empty space in Shyampur-Kadamtali Truck Stand, empty space adjacent to Little Friends Club and area around Bishwa Road adjacent to Kamalapur Stadium and empty space in the vicinity of Postagola crematorium.    

About this, DSCC Property Officer (Executive Magistrate) Moniruzzaman said this time it has been decided to set up 10 temporary cattle markets in the Dhaka South area. Apart from this, there will also be a cattle market at Sarulia (permanent). 

Sacrificial animal stalls must be set up within the specified area leased by the City Corporation. The city corporation has given strict instructions for this.  Law enforcement forces will also be on the ground to maintain order in the market and provide security to the animal traders.
