State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury has said that a new decision will be taken on the movement of motorcycles on the Padma Bridge after the installation of Speed Gun and CCTV.

He made the remarks in response to a question from reporters at the signing ceremony of the 2022-23 Annual Performance Agreement and the 2021-22 Integrity Award Ceremony of the Ministry of Shipping.

Asked when motorcycles will be allowed to run on the Padma Bridge, the state minister said it was not an indefinite decision. After installing speed guns, and CCTVs a new decision will be taken.

Asked whether there is any link with politics on unscrewing the nuts-bolts of Padma Bridge, he said, "We have seen a leader who is imprisoned for embezzling orphans' money. She herself has said that no one will cross the Padma Bridge and it will collapse, its nut-bolt is patched. The politics of patchwork is like that. Those who have followers will think it is true. It's like snatching a woman's jewelry from her neck."

Replying to a question on the frustration of the launch owners due to low number of passengers, the state minister said, "There is no reason to be frustrated, it has been only three days since the Padma Bridge was inaugurated. We are optimistic. Why are we building 10 thousand kilometers of waterways? We did it because there is a demand for it. That's why we have to spend hundreds of crores of taka, we are on target. We are not running the country unplanned. The Prime Minister is not doing anything unnecessary. I think the launch ride will be more enjoyable in the future.
