The dream Padma Bridge is awaiting inauguration on June 25. Concerned parties are spending a lot of time centering on the inauguration ceremony. Meanwhile, Major Bridge Engineering Corporation, a Chinese contractor, had completed the construction of the bridge and handed over to the Bridges Division on Wednesday, confirmed project manager Dewan Md. Abdul Quader at night.

He said that the contractor company has completed the work and handed over the bridge. However, they will still work on the “Defect Liability Period” for one year.

Earlier, on Friday evening, several vehicles of the Padma Multipurpose Bridge Project were experimentally tolled. According to the project officials, the vehicles of the bridge project crossed the Padma Bridge at the toll plaza on the Mawa end at around 6:30 pm on the same day. However, as there is no use of technology in the country’s transport, the authorities have said that the bridge has to be crossed through toll by “traditional way”.

Besides, all the lampposts of Mawa in Munshiganj and Jajira in Shariatpur were lit together on Tuesday evening. The entire Padma bridge was illuminated. As soon as the sundown, the entire Padma River also became illuminated by the flash of street lights.

Padma Bridge Executive Engineer Dewan Md. Abdul Quader said all the lampposts on both sides of the bridge have been lit for the first time through the electrical connection provided by Munshiganj and Shariatpur Palli Bidyut Samity. Earlier, the lights were lit experimentally through generators in a few steps.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the bridge on Saturday (June 25), a symbol of the country’s ability and capability. On the day of the ceremony, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will arrive at the Mawa end of the Padma Bridge by helicopter at 10 am. She will unveil the inaugural plaque of the bridge at the Mawa end and take part in the auspicious gathering. Later, the Premier will cross the bridge from there and take part in a public meeting of the Awami League at Shariatpur.

All the preparations for the opening ceremony are nearing the end. Distinguished dignitaries including foreign diplomats will be present on the occasion. The workers are busy completing the overall management work including setting up a spectacular stage for the ceremony. The Bangladesh Army is in charge of the security of the Padma Bridge.

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) and the police have banned the movement of covered vans and trucks on roads and highways connected to the bridge from Friday morning to Sunday, informed DMP’s Deputy Commissioner of Public Relations and Media Faruk Hossain, in an SMS.

He said on the occasion of the inauguration of the Padma Bridge on Saturday, the movement of covered vans and trucks on the highway connected to the Padma Bridge will be closed from the morning of June 24 to June 26. For this, Mawa-bound covered vans and trucks from Dhaka metropolis to Munshiganj district have been requested to operate on the ferry route Paturia Daulatdia and Chandpur-Shariatpur from June 24 to June 26 morning.
