Security beefed up ahead of Padma Bridge opening: HM

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said that strict security measures has been taken ahead of the inauguration ceremony of Padma Bridge.

He made the remarks at a meeting at the Home Ministry's conference room on Monday to discuss security arrangements ahead of the inauguration of Padma Bridge. The minister said this in the context of expressing various concerns surrounding the event.

On June 25, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the Padma Bridge, which connects the southern part of the country with the capital.

It was decided at the meeting that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, members of the cabinet, prominent politicians and foreign diplomats stationed in Bangladesh would take strict security measures during their stay and during the inauguration ceremony of Padma Bridge.

Besides, strict security measures will be taken at various venues at Mawa and Jajira end of Padma Bridge and surrounding areas.

All law enforcement agencies will work in coordination to ensure security. Besides, members of other forces including naval police will be present in the maritime security.

Recently, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that there is a conspiracy to thwart the inauguration of Padma Bridge. Earlier, Road Transports and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader had expressed similar fears.

The meeting was informed that intelligence activities have been intensified to prevent sabotage at the venue or Padma Bridge.

The inauguration of the bridge will have a sufficient number of volunteers along with the law enforcement agencies. There will be emergency services such as ambulance, first aid, water and mobile toilets.
