Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen has called upon all to join hands with the government in assisting the flood-affected people of Sylhet and rescuing those trapped in the floodwaters.
The Foreign Minister made the call in a video message from his verified Facebook page on Friday.
At that time, he promised government assistance to all flood-affected people in the Sylhet region.
He urged the leaders and activists of the local Awami League and its affiliates to voluntarily deliver cooked food to various shelters as there was no shortage of relief and dry food.
Abdul Momen said the administration was deploying a sufficient number of speedboats and boats to rescue people trapped in the flood-hit area and take them to nearby shelters.
Foreign Minister further said that there was concern among the students about the SSC exams, however, it has been postponed for the time being. Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) has not been able to protect the Kumargaon Power Substation from floods, causing power outages in many areas.
Momen said all concerned ministries were working together to control the situation. It teaches us a lesson – because we have occupied reservoirs like canals, haors, beels, as a result, the flood situation has become direr, so they need dredging.
