Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque addressed a roundtable meeting titled ‘How is the Health Budget’ at the conference room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in the capital’s Mohakhali at around 12 pm on Wednesday
The health system needs to be strengthened, said Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque.
“The health system needs to be strengthened overall – so that we can provide better services so that people’s medical expenses are reduced,” he said.
The Health Minister also said he has taken a plan to digitize the health ministry
Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque said this while addressing a roundtable meeting titled “How is the Health Budget” at the conference room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in the capital’s Mohakhali at around 12 pm on Wednesday.
The Health Minister said healthcare does not depend only on the work of the health ministry. The ministry alone cannot keep people healthy. For example, human health is getting worse due to environmental and air pollution.
The minister said the environment has an impact on human health. The budget did not impose too many restrictions on polythene. Polythene is responsible for different types of pollution. Polythene is not a perishable product. Polythene is destroying the river-drain environment. Its effects are again falling on health.
“I think polythene should be banned or higher taxes should be imposed on polythene.”
Zahid Maleque said “more taxes should be raised on tobacco”. Tobacco harms people, and the amount of revenue collected from tobacco, and much more money is spent on tobacco-related diseases, we have to pay attention to that as well.
