Rainfall likely to increase over country

The rainfall activity is likely to increase over the country in the next 72 hours or within three days, forecasted Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) today.

In a weather bulletin issued by BMD, the country’s Met Office, on Tuesday, it was forecasted that light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind are likely to occur at many places over Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions; at a few places over Rajshahi, Dhaka and Chattogram divisions and at one or two places over Khulna and Barishal divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over the northern part of the country in the next 24 hours ending tomorrow at 9 am.

However, the mild heat wave that is sweeping over the Khulna division and the districts of Rajshahi and Pabna may continue during this period, the BMD weather bulletin said.

Besides, day and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country during the period, it added.

Meanwhile, Meteorologist Md. Shaheenul Islam, deputy director of BMD, said in the weather bulletin that a trough of low extended from the Southern part of Bihar to Gangetic West Bengal has persisted. As a result, the monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh and moderate over North Bay.

The country’s maximum temperature was recorded at 37.5°C yesterday in the Rajshahi district and at Chuadanga of the Khulna division while today’s minimum temperature was recorded at 21.7°C at Dinajpur in the Rangpur division.

The country’s maximum rainfall for the last 24 hours was recorded at 92mm in the Sylhet district.

Today’s sunset will be at 6:47 pm and tomorrow’s sunrise will be at 5:11 am.
