Padma Bridge won`t be open to public on June 25: Bridge Secretary

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the Padma Bridge on June 25. But on the same day, the Padma Bridge will not be opened to the public, said Md. Monjur Hossain, secretary of the bridge department.

He made the remarks at an exchange meeting on the occasion of inauguration of Padma Bridge organized by the bridge department at Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the capital on Wednesday.

Manjur Hossain said there is interest among many to cross the Padma Bridge on the June 25. After the inauguration on that day, it will be informed at any time by issuing a notification or by issuing a public notification when the Padma Bridge will be opened to the public. It could be the next day at 6 o'clock in the morning or at any time on that day.

He further said that there will be two ceremonies on the occasion of inauguration of Padma Bridge. One at the Mawa end, the other at the Jazira end. There will be a assembly at Mawa end where only the Prime Minister will speak. She will then inaugurate the inaugural plaque and mural at the Mawa end. If all goes well, she will cross the Padma Bridge and join a rally on the Jazira end at 11am. There will also be an opening plaque and mural on the side, which will also be inaugurated. The programs will be broadcast live in 8 divisions, 64 districts simultaneously.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader presided over the meeting. Awami League presidium member Shahjahan Khan, Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak and others leaders were present.
