Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport e-Gate (Automatic Border Control System) has been fully operated today. Passengers will be able to complete their own immigration in just 18 seconds.

Airport Executive Director Group Captain Kamrul Islam confirmed the matter.

He said a total of 12 e-gates have been set up in the departure area of the airport and three in the arrival area. The gate was used experimentally on Sunday and Monday.

It shows that a passenger can complete his/her immigration in just 18 seconds.

Kamrul Islam said that on Monday, some passengers immigrated through e-gate on an experimental basis. Arrangements have been made to fully launch e-gate for passengers on Tuesday. With this, passengers with e-passports can cross the e-gate in 18 seconds after verification.

Additional IGP of Special Branch (SB) Monirul Islam and Project Director of e-Passport Immigration Project Brigadier General Sadat were present at the inauguration of e-Gate (Automatic Border Control System) activities. The immigration process is completed through e-gate in front of them. Bangladesh was recognized as the first country in South Asia to launch e-gate.

Earlier, e-gate was installed at the airport in the country in 2019 but it was not possible to launch it for a long time. Recently, the Home Minister had several times urged to launch e-gate. The Bangladesh Immigration and Passport Department and the Immigration Police started working in this regard.
