Health Minister Zahid Maleque today said the government is taking initiative for digitization in the health sector aiming to provide better healthcare facilities to the people.

“We have realized digitization is how much important for the health sector during the coronavirus pandemic... accordingly, we have started the digitization process in the health sector,” he told a function at the National Institute of Diseases of the Chest and Hospital (NIDCH), an official release said.

Zahid Maleque said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman established hospitals and training centers to ensure healthcare facilities for the people of the country.

As part of the continuous trend of development in the health sector, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is taking various effective and prompt measures to implement unfinished tasks of Bangabandhu, he added.

The Health Minister said Bangladesh has become a role model for controlling coronavirus as the country successfully handled three waves of the deadly virus.

“When almost the entire world was struggling to combat the lethal virus... we have taken multiple measures under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to protect lives of the people from the disease,” he added.

The Health Minister said Bangladesh secured the fifth position in the world for its success in combating highly contagious viruses while the country attained the top position among the South Asian countries.

The Health Minister said, “Bangladesh has so far inoculated nearly 26 crore doses of vaccines.”

He attributed the controlling of the third wave of COVID-19 that hit Bangladesh in mid-January this year, to the expansion of vaccination coverage including booster doses.
