Rain likely, heat wave may abate

Bangladesh Meteorological Department on Saturday predicted rain or thunder showers with intense lightning flashes at most of the places of the country in the next 24 hours commencing 9:00 am today. 

"Rain or thunder showers with intense lightning flashes and temporary gusty or squally wind is likely to occur at many places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Sylhet and Chattogram divisions and at a few places over Khulna and Barishal divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over the country," said a Met Office release issued this morning. 

Meanwhile, a mild heat wave is sweeping over the districts of Jashore and Satkhira and it may abate. 

Besides, day temperature may fall by 1-2 degrees Celsius and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country, the release added.  

Country's maximum temperature on Friday was recorded by 37.6 degrees Celsius at Jashore of Khulna division, while minimum temperature was recorded by 18.5 degrees Celsius in Badalgachhi of Rajshahi division. 

The highest rainfall in the last 24 hours till 6:00 am today was recorded at 65 mm at Dimla in Rangpur division. 

The sun sets at 6:37 pm today and rises at 5:13 am tomorrow in the capital.
