Eminent space scientist AM Choudhury dies

Eminent space scientist and former Chairman of the Bangladesh Space Research and Remote Sensing Organization (SPARRSO) Dr AM Choudhury passed away. He was 81. 

He died of old-age complications at his Dhanmondi residence in Dhaka on Thursday evening, said a a2i (the Aspire to Innovate) press release on Friday.

He is survived by two sons and one daughter.

Dr AM Choudhury’s first namaz-e-janaza will be held after Asr prayers at Taqwa Masjid at Dhanmondi on Saturday. He will be laid to eternal rest at Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals’ Graveyard following the second namaz-e-janaza after Maghrib prayers. 

Dr AM Choudhury was born in the village of Kayastar in Dinarpur Pargana of Habiganj district in Sylhet in 1940. 

He completed his MSc in Applied Mathematics from Dhaka University in 1963 and his Postgraduate Diploma in Space Science from the University of London in 1966. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in Space Physics in 1969. 

The former chairman of the Bangladesh Space Research and Remote Sensing Organization (Sparrso) received the 'Independence Medal' in 1998.
