Rain likely at most places of country

Bangladesh Meteorological Department on Thursday predicted rain or thunder showers with intense lightning flashes at most of the places of the country in the next 24 hours commencing 9:00 am today. 

"Rain or thunder showers with intense lightning flashes and temporary gusty or squally wind is likely to occur at many places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions; at a few places over Dhaka and Chattogram divisions and at one or two places over Khulna and Barishal divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over the country," said a Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) bulletin. 

Meanwhile, a mild heat wave is sweeping over the districts of Rajshahi, Madaripur, Chandpur and Bagerhat and it may continue till tomorrow morning. 

However, day temperature may fall slightly and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country, the bulletin added. 

As an outlook for next 72 hours, the BMD  predicted: "Rain or thunder showers activity is likely to continue." 

Meanwhile, a low-pressure area has formed over Gulf of Martaban and adjoining Myanmar and now lies over the same area as a well-marked low. Trough of low extends from Bihar to North Bay across West Bengal and adjoining Southern part of Bangladesh persists. 

Country's maximum temperature on Thursday was recorded by 36.8 degrees Celsius in Madaripur, while minimum temperature was recorded by 20.8 degrees Celsius in Rajarhat of Rangpur. 

The highest rainfall in the last 24 hours till 6:00 am today was recorded at 57 mm at Tangail in Dhaka division. 

The sun sets at 6:36 pm today and rises at 5:13 am tomorrow in the capital.
