Bangladesh-India train services resume date announced

After nearly two years of suspension due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the passenger trains between Bangladesh and India will resume services. The Maitree and Bandhan Express trains will start operating on May 29 while Mitali Express will run from June 1.

The Maitree Express runs on the Dhaka-Kolkata route while Bandhan Express runs on the Khulna-Kolkata route. The Mitali Express will run from Dhaka to New Jalpaiguri. 

The Indian High Commission said in a statement that the 'Maitree Express' would resume its journey from Dhaka on May 29 and the 'Bandhan Express' from Kolkata. Besides, the Mitali Express between New Jalpaiguri and Dhaka will start its journey from New Jalpaiguri on June 1 after the virtual launch of the Railway Ministers of India and Bangladesh. 

The journey of the first India-Bangladesh international passenger train Maitree Express started on April 14, 2008, the day of Bengali New Year. Bandhan Express was launched on November 16, 2017, and Mitali Express on March 26, 2021. 

The inter-country train services between Bangladesh and India have been suspended since March 15, 2020, after the coronavirus outbreak in the country.
