‘Asani’ intensifies into Severe Cyclonic Storm

The Cyclonic Storm “ASANI” over Southeast Bay and adjoining area moved northwestwards, intensified into a Severe Cyclonic Storm over West-central Bay & adjoining area at 6:00 am on Monday (May 9), said Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
It is likely to move in a northwesterly direction. One of its associated troughs extends upto North Bay, the Met Office said in a release issued this morning.
It also forecasted rain or thunder showers with intense lightning flashes and temporary gusty or squally wind at most places of the country in the next 24 hours commencing at 9:00 am today.
"Rain or thunder showers with intense lightning flashes and temporary gusty or squally wind is likely to occur at most places over Barishal and Chattogram divisions; at a few places over Dhaka, Khulna, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and at one or two places over Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions," according to the release.
Meanwhile, a mild Heat Wave is sweeping over Sylhet division and the districts of Madaripur, Rangamati, Cumilla, Noakhali, Feni, Khulna and Jashore and it may abate.
As an outlook for next 72 hours, the BMD predicted: "Rain or thunder showers activity is likely to continue."
The country's maximum temperature on Sunday was recorded at 36.8 degrees Celsius at Jashore in Khulna division while minimum temperature today was recorded at 22.9 degrees Celsius at Tetulia in Rangpur division.
The sun sets at 6:31 pm today and rises at 5:19 am tomorrow in the capital.
