Rainfall activity likely to increase across country

Rain or thundershowers activity is likely to increase over the country in the next 72 hours or within three days, forecasted Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) on Sunday.
The weather bulletin by the BMD, signed by deputy director Meteorologist Md. Bazlur Rashid, states that the rain or thundershowers with intense lightning flashes and temporary gusty or squally wind are likely to occur at one or two places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions in the next 24 hours ending tomorrow, Monday (May 9).
Besides, the mild heatwave that is sweeping over the regions of Rangamati, Sayedpur, Khulna, Mongla, Satkhira and Jashore is likely to continue and spread.
“Day temperature may rise slightly and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country during the period,” the weather bulletin added.
Meanwhile, Meteorologist Md. Bazlur Rashid said the well-marked low over Southeast Bay and adjoining South Andaman Sea has intensified into a Depression, then Deep Depression and further intensified into a Cyclonic storm “Asani” over Southeast Bay and adjoining area (near lat. 11.2°N & long. 89.3°E) at 6 am today (May 8). “It is likely to intensify further and move in a Northwesterly direction,” he added.
The country’s maximum temperature was recorded at 37.0°C yesterday at Rangamati in the Chattogram division while today’s minimum temperature was recorded at 22.4°C at Tetulia in the Rangpur division and at Patuakhali in the Barishal division.
Today’s sunset will be at 6:31 am and tomorrow’s sunrise will be at 5:19 pm.
