A depression has formed in the Bay of Bengal, leading to the strongest cyclone of the year ‘Asani’. Besides, there is a possibility of rain in almost all parts of the country, said Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) in a weather bulletin issued today.

Meteorologist Md. Shaheenul Islam said rain or thundershowers with “intense lighting flashes” and temporary gusty or squally wind is likely to occur at a few places over Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and at one or two places over Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions. Day and night temperatures may also rise slightly across the country.

“A low pressure has formed in the Andaman Sea this morning. Until now, it has been facing West Bengal, Odisha and Bangladesh. At the moment, however, it is not clear where it will hit,” he also said, adding that the next update will be given as per the observation.

According to the Meteorological Department, it rained in six parts of the country from Thursday morning to Friday morning. The highest rainfall was recorded in Sandwip at 94 mm.

The Met Office also said day and night temperatures could rise further in the next three days.
