State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr. Md. Enamur Rahman today said the government has adequate preparation to deal with cyclone “Asani”.

He made the remarks after a meeting at the Secretariat in the capital on Thursday afternoon.

Md. Enamur Rahman said he learned yesterday that a cyclone had formed near the Andaman Islands in the Indian Ocean. It could turn low by May 9.

The State Minister said the cyclone was discussed at the meeting. There has been a discussion about when there will be low pressure and when there will be depression.

What we are preparing for each step, who we will connect with, and who will be given responsibilities have been fixed today. The instructions would be given at the field level after another inter-ministerial meeting when a warning signal is given later, he said.

The State Minister said the shelter centers need to be set up in case of deep depression, including informing CPP volunteers and field level officials. We can use around 7,000 shelter houses, school colleges and other establishments if necessary.

“We had prepared more than 14,000 shelter centers during the cyclone Amphan. We were able to shelter more than 2.4 million people there, we have that capacity and readiness. Hopefully, we can deal with it nicely,” said Md. Enamur Rahman.
