90pc of Boro paddy harvested in haor

Farmers have so far harvested 90 percent of Boro paddy in haor areas, said an Agricultural Ministry press release on Sunday.

Of these, 80 percent of Boro paddy harvested in Kishoreganj, 100 percent in Netrokona, 68 percent in Brahmanbaria, 92 percent in Sylhet, 88 percent in Moulvibazar, 90 percent in Habiganj, and 95 percent in Sunamganj.

According to the Department of Agriculture Extension, Boro paddy has been planted in 4 lakh 52 thousand 138 hectares of land in 7 haor districts of the country- Kishoreganj, Netrokona, Brahmanbaria, Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, and Sunamganj this year. Of these, 4 lakh 500 hectares of boro paddy have been harvested so far in haor. On the other hand, 4 lakh 98 thousand 160 hectares of paddy have been planted in the high lands (non-haors) outside the haor.

A total of, 9 lakh 50 thousand 318 hectares of land have been planted boro paddy. Of this, 5 lakh 71 thousand 600 hectares of land have been harvested so far, which is 60 percent (90 percent in haor and 32 percent in non-haor).

Recently, Agriculture Minister Md. Abdur Razzaque said that sufficient combined harvesters and reapers have been provided in Haor for fast harvesting of paddy. This has made it possible to harvest boro paddy quickly even in hostile environments.

The Ministry of Agriculture has been providing necessary assistance to the farmers from the very beginning for quick harvesting of ripe paddy in hostile weather. Adequate allocation of combined harvester and reaper has been brought from other districts as well.
