Exuberancy in Mangal Shovajatra

After being closed for the last two years due to the coronavirus (Covid-19) situation, this time a Mangal Shovajatra (procession) has been organized for the Bengali New Year-1429.
The traditional Mangal Shovajatra was brought out at 9 am on Thursday, led by Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman, from the premises of TSC Raju Memorial Sculpture in the capital.
This Mangal Shovajatra circling Memory Eternal – located at DU’s Nilkhet road – and will end at TSC in the capital. This time the procession is being held in person.
In the procession, various issues of symbolic presentation of recent events along with the history and tradition of Bangalee have been included. University teachers, students, and people of different levels spontaneously took part in it.
This time the slogan of the Mangal Shovajatra declared by UNESCO as ‘Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity’ is – “Purify and Wipe Away the Dirty Meaning.”
Meanwhile, a large number of law enforcers have been deployed in the procession to avoid any untoward incidents. The whole area is wrapped in a tight security blanket.
Due to the Metro Rail, the procession started from the university’s TSC instead of the Faculty of Fine Arts. People from all walks of life used to gather at TSC to participate in the procession before the scheduled 9 am. The whole area was filled with colorful people in the colors of Baishakh. Everyone has painted themselves in different costumes of Baishakh - “Happy New Year 1429”.
State Minister of Cultural Affairs KM Khalid, Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Akhtaruzzaman, Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Prof Dr. Muhammad, Vice-Chancellor (Education) Prof Dr. ASM Maqsood Kamal, teachers, students, officials, and employees of the university took part in it.
