CEC expects compromise within political leadership

CEC Kazi Habibul Awal and four other ECs laid wreaths at the National Memorial in Savar around 10 am on Tuesday
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal today said there was no political pressure on any of us. We are working independently and will continue to work independently.
“We have heard what the BNP has said. We have a responsibility to hold the next election. We will discuss with them later how we will communicate or deal with them. We expect compromise and dialogue within the political leadership as well,” he said.
He said this in response to a query from reporters after paying homage to the heroic martyrs with wreaths at the National Memorial in Savar at 10 am on Tuesday.
At this time, CEC Kazi Habibul Awal was present with 4 Election Commissioners (ECs) - Rashida Sultana, Ahsan Habib Khan, Md. Alamgir and Anisur Rahman.
Secretary of the Election Secretariat Humayun Kabir Khandaker was accompanying the delegation. At that time, Dhaka DC Shahidul Islam, District Superintendent of Police Maruf Hossain Sardar greeted them with flowers.
Later, the Election Commissioners laid wreaths at the altar of heroic martyrs at the Memorial. Later, CEC Kazi Habibul Awal signed the inspection book of the National Memorial.
After the formalities, the election commissioners left the National Memorial premises at 10:20 pm.
