State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam has said that the United States (US) will not impose any new sanctions on Bangladesh.
“A conspiracy was being hatched to capitalize the US sanctions on RAB and some former and current officers of the force. RAB is our proud institution. It is the responsibility of the state to protect them,” he said at a function on Thursday.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam said there were plans to work with law firms to lift the ban. The US administration must be given an “explanation” for sanctions. We can expect friendly countries like the US to tell us the reasons for this.
The State Minister for Foreign Affairs said the US had been asked in written to explain the reasons for the sanctions and its extent. “They (the United States) have said they will respond,” he also said.
Shahriar Alam said the Awami League has appointed a “lobbyist firm” for the purpose of public relations. The Awami League does not think that there is a need for a “typical lobbyist”. “We will not do anything in secret like BNP. The people will have full accountability. There will be no secret agenda,” he added.
